The first workshop was held in Anderson, SC. The South Carolina Clogging Council is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to support clog dancing, to improve traditional and contemporary styles of clog dancing, and to upgrade the level of clogging in South Carolina.

In March of 1991, solo competition was added to the annual Stampede and in 1992 team categories were added.
